What Is FTD? First Time Deposit Meaning Explained

By Mario Antonini·

FTD (first time deposit) is the moment a new customer deposits money for the first time at a sportsbook, casino or binary options broker. That’s what FTD means in practice: it’s the conversion event that actually matters for campaign optimization in iGaming and binary options — more than the sign-up or simply entering a channel. The term comes from affiliate marketing jargon and is used in much the same way in almost any vertical with deposits (betting, casino, trading, crypto). Some affiliate programs call the same thing NDC (new depositing customer), and many CPA deals are paid on it.

Why FTD is different from “entering the channel”

In an operation that promotes a sportsbook or broker through Telegram, entering the channel is only the start of the funnel: a person can enter, follow the signals and never open an account or deposit. Optimizing a campaign only for the entry, without visibility of the FTD, tends to scale toward the audience that only enters — not the one that actually deposits.

Take two campaigns that each bring in 300 channel entries (illustrative numbers). If one generates 30 FTDs and the other 6, the cost per entry is the same, but the cost per FTD is five times higher in the second. Only tracking the deposit shows that difference.

How the FTD reaches your tracking

The FTD happens inside the operator’s or broker’s system, out of reach of any pixel or Telegram bot. It reaches your tracking through a server-to-server postback, tied to the click by a click_id. In Track4you, that’s what Integrations do (Pro and Enterprise plans):

  1. The integration generates a tracking link (t4y.io/v2/...) that goes in your ads, bio or channel content.
  2. On every click, Track4you generates a unique click_id and sends the lead to the platform’s sign-up page with that value in the URL.
  3. When the lead makes a first deposit, the platform returns the same click_id in the postback, along with the amount.
  4. Track4you sends the conversion to your pixel through CAPI as the custom event FTD, with the deposit value.

There’s no time limit on Track4you’s side: even if the first deposit happens weeks after the click, it goes to the pixel and becomes a signal for the algorithm. Whether Ads Manager credits it to a campaign is decided by Meta’s attribution window (by default, 7 days after the click or 1 day after a view).

The FTD does not arrive as Purchase: that’s the event for the “Deposit” type (deposits in general), and sign-ups arrive as CompleteRegistration. Because FTD is a custom event, you confirm it once in Meta’s Events Manager before it shows up when you build the campaign. With low FTD volume, you can start by optimizing for registrations and move up to FTD as the numbers grow.

FTD vs redeposit

It’s worth separating the FTD from a redeposit (a subsequent deposit by the same customer). For campaign optimization in Meta Ads, the FTD is usually the event that matters — it represents the acquisition of a new customer. A redeposit is more relevant to internal recurrence and LTV metrics than to campaign optimization itself; mixing the two as if they were the same event distorts your reading of the real acquisition cost.

See the full flow in the iGaming S2S postback guide or the binary options version, how FTD fits into a complete iGaming paid traffic structure alongside the enter_channel event, and the real cost-per-subscriber ranges in the Telegram subscriber CPL guide.
