What Is CPC? Cost Per Click in Paid Ads Explained

By Mario Antonini·

What is CPC? CPC (cost per click) is the average amount an ad platform charges each time someone clicks an ad. Unlike CPM, which charges for the impression, CPC charges for the action: it’s the metric that shows what it cost to take a person from the ad to your bridge page, or to whatever destination the campaign points to.

How CPC is calculated

The formula is simple: ad spend ÷ number of clicks. If a campaign spent US$500 and got 250 clicks, the average CPC was US$2 (illustrative numbers). Meta Ads and Google Ads show this number directly in the ads manager, with no external tool needed.

Why a low CPC doesn’t mean a good campaign

A low CPC only tells you the click was cheap. It says nothing about what happened after it. One ad can have a low CPC and bring people who never actually enter the Telegram channel (enter_channel), while another with a higher CPC brings clicks that turn into paying subscribers or deposits. Optimizing a campaign for a low CPC tends to pull the algorithm toward cheaper reach, not necessarily toward people more likely to convert. The same warning applies to CPM.

Where CPC fits in the cost of a Telegram funnel

In a campaign for a Telegram channel, CPC is just one number in the middle of the chain: impression → ad click → arrival on the bridge page → channel entry → subscription or deposit. Looking at CPC in isolation, without going down to the real CPL by vertical or to the value event (an FTD, a paid subscription), hides whether the cheaper click is actually turning into subscribers, or just inflating the click count with low-quality traffic. Part of that gap happens before the page even loads, which is what connect rate measures.

CPC vs cost per result

Comparing two ads by CPC alone is shallow: a creative can have a higher CPC and still come out cheaper per subscriber, if more of the people who click it actually enter the channel. The question that matters isn’t “which ad has the cheapest click” but “which ad costs less per real result”. The guide to optimizing for real conversion events explains why the event you choose as the campaign goal weighs more in that math than the cost of the click itself.

How Track4you helps you read it

Track4you ties each enter_channel to the original click within the attribution window (up to 7 days after the click), with the campaign identified by the ad’s UTMs. On the Pro and Enterprise plans, Integrations also bring in registrations, FTDs and deposits from the sportsbook, casino or broker. In the Dashboard, the amount-spent card (“Valor Gasto”) and the cost-per fields (“Custo por…”) pull data from your Facebook ad accounts next to your channel entries. That lets you go from CPC to the real cost per subscriber or per FTD, instead of deciding only on the cost per click that the ads manager shows you.

One caveat when comparing: the clicks (“Cliques”) in Track4you’s dashboard are clicks on the page button that leads to Telegram, not clicks on the ad, so they won’t match the clicks the ads manager uses to calculate CPC.
